SOCIAL DEMOCRAT,
FEMINIST, ANTI RACIST,
OSTROBOTHNIAN,
HUMAN
My name is Rebecca Åkers and I am a 26-year old student, financial secretary, sister, local politician and world improver from Mustasaari. I am driven by a strong belief in the good of humanity and I love movies, theatre, music, walking in the forest and spending time with my family. I am currently the president of Mustasaari's Swedish Social democrats and a board member of Finland's Swedish Social Democrats and Social Democratic Youth.

The social democratic message is important for me, because it according to me is the task of the stronger to take care of the weaker. I have been a member of Finland's Swedish Social Democrats since 2012, when my family's difficult economic situation gave me a first hand's experience of not only how important it is to have a social security system, but also how difficult it is to live on benefits. Engagement in movement for human rights such as Amnesty International and Youth Against Racism, as well as the experience of living with a brother with a disability has also made non-discrimination one of my most important political questions.

I am currently studying Business Management and Commercial Law at Hanken School of Business in Vaasa, and I have a Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences from Åbo Akademi University with a major in Public International Law. In 2018 I was on the Rector's list of Hanken's 10 Best Master's Students.

In the spring of 2021, I am running for re-election in the Municipal Elections of Mustasaari

- Michelle Obama
MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS 2021
WELL-BEING
I want all people in Mustasaari to be healthy and feel well. It is better to invest in preventing services for mental and physical health than to put out fires afterwards. If you look for help, you will get it.

EQUALITY
Equality and everybody's equal opportunities are essential to me. No one should feel that they are treated worse due to their gender, age, skin color, language, sexuality, origin, disability or any other reason.
SUSTAINABILITY
Ecological, social and economic sustainability are a duty to ensure the safety and wellbeing of today's youth and futrure generations. All of the municipal decisions should consider an ecological perspective, from public procurement to city planning. We have to increase public transport and roads for pedestrians and bicycles, both in order to reduce traffic pollution and to support those who do not want or cannot take their own car.
